Any guidebook will give you sample itineraries, depending on how long you are planning on staying. India is a dense and blissfully chaotic place, and the concept of "enough time to see everything" simply does not exist. December and January are part of the peak tourist season, so there will be crowds, but in a country with over 1 billion people, there are few places without crowds, whether it is tourist season or not.

Golden Triangle
This is the classic, quick trip to North India. Starting in Delhi, you would go on to the Taj Mahal in Agra, the abandoned ghost city of Fatehpur Sikri, then on to Jaipur for a few days before the wedding, attend the wedding and circle back to Delhi for your return flights. This can be done in 7-8 days, including the wedding.

Rajasthani Cities
For those of you planning on staying for more than a week, it's will be possible to visit some of the other cities in Rajasthan. You could follow the above itinerary and from Jaipur, continue to head south to Udaipur, then northwest to Jodhpur and further west to the fortressed city of Jaisalmer.

Himalayas
The northern cities in the foothills of the Himalayas may be accessible, but extremely cold. Leh is only accessible by land from May to October.
